The atmosphere at the SAE Institute of Technology was gentle yet focused. As Eviziv Media continues its Professional Tech Development Training & Hands-On Workshop Series, this latest session marked the 4th installment of “Best Practices in Doing Corporate Audio” in partnership with SAE, bringing together aspiring technicians and seasoned professionals for an intensive deep dive into the high-stakes world of corporate production.
What began as a vision to bridge education and real-world execution continues to grow—each workshop building on the last, strengthening both skill and opportunity within the AV community.
A Masterclass in Excellence: Kirk Swaby
The highlight of the workshop was a comprehensive presentation by Kirk Swaby, a multimedia professional who embodies the level of excellence required to thrive in modern AV.
With over 25 years of international experience spanning Jamaica and the United States, Swaby’s journey—from entrepreneurship to mastering music and production technology—has equipped him with a rare, multidisciplinary perspective.
Kirk Swaby is an extraordinary media professional—well-versed across lighting, video, and audio—and possesses the rare caliber of skill required to operate at the highest level of large-scale production.
The Art of Corporate Audio
Swaby’s presentation stripped away the flash of concert production to focus on the clinical precision required in corporate environments. His message was clear and inspired listeners to engage by asking questions when they found themselves confused or wanting more information:
In corporate audio, if the audience notices you, something is wrong.
Key Technical Pillars
The Clarity Mandate: Unlike concert mixing, which often seeks excitement, corporate audio is about intelligibility. If a single word is lost in a keynote, the message fails.
The Foundation of Gain: “Gain structure is the foundation of everything.” Clean input and proper headroom are non-negotiable. Problems must be fixed at the source—not at the console.
Signal Flow & Frequency: Understanding the full path from microphone to speaker separates professional execution from guesswork. This includes disciplined wireless coordination to ensure uninterrupted presentations.
Precision Placement: “You cannot fix bad placement with EQ.” The correct microphone choice and positioning are critical to achieving clean, consistent sound.
A Call to Professionalism
The workshop was framed by a powerful call to action from Orlando Dillon, Workshop Coordinator and Managing Partner at Eviziv Media LLC.
Dillon reminded attendees that technical ability alone is not enough—professionalism, teamwork, and reliability are equally critical. He emphasized that without a harmonious balance of both technical skill and professional character, a career in this demanding industry will inevitably fall short of its potential.
“Being in this field is similar to going into battle or being part of a battalion—there is complete reliance on everyone to perform at their best. Today’s training is about the person, the tech, and what you bring beyond the technical skills.”
A Standout Moment: Opportunity in Action
One of the most unique and impactful aspects of this workshop was the largest number of SAE students and graduates interviewed by Eviziv Media during a single session.
This initiative reflects Eviziv’s commitment to not only train—but to create real pathways into the industry by expanding its growing Freelance Tech Network.
For many participants, the workshop became more than a learning experience—it became a direct connection to opportunity.
